U.S. VeteranEdward W. Filip, Jr., 65, of Manchester, NH, died peacefully, October 17, 2011, at Elliot Hospital, surrounded by family and friends, after a sudden illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 16, 1945, he was the son of Edward W. and Claire (Raymond) Filip, Sr. He was raised on Filip’s Dairy Farm in Manchester and resided in the Queen City most of his life.

He graduated from Manchester High School Central, Class of 1963.
During the Vietnam War, he served with the United States Marine Corps.

In his early years, he worked at Ammon Instruments. Later, he continued his career in the defense instruments field at Kollsman Instruments and Raytheon Corporation.

He was a communicant of Saint Pius X Church.

A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, the true inspiration of his life was his family. He enjoyed attending the various sporting activities of his two sons, where he coached several teams and greatly enjoyed the associated travel throughout the Northeast and Canada.

Mr. Filip was tireless in his devotion and dedication to his wife, Nancy, during her decade-long battle with breast cancer. During that time, they were able to enjoy numerous trips to the Amish Country and frequent scenic drives along the New England seacoast.

He was married forty years to Nancy S. (Heath) Filip. She died November 28, 2008.

Family members include two sons, Dana E. Filip and his wife, Melissa of Candia, NH, William N. Filip and his wife, Kelley of Herdon, VA, three grandchildren, Darby, Reagan, and James; several nieces and nephews.

Services: Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester, NH.

The funeral will be held Saturday with a mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10AM in Saint Pius X Church, Candia Road, Manchester, NH.

Burial with military honors will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th floor, New York, NY 10022.
