Christina L. (Kokolis) Nelson, 65, of Candia, NH, died August 1, 2012, at Elliot Hospital, after period of declining health.
Born in Manchester, NH on July 17, 1947, she was the daughter of Menelaos and Christine (Kiritsis) Kokolis. She resided in Manchester before moving to Candia in 1979.
She graduated from Manchester High School Central, Class of 1965. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from Keene State College in 1969 and a masters degree in education from Suffolk University in 1976. She also received a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Lesley University in 1985.
She worked at the Manchester School District for thirty-eight years. Early in her career, she was an elementary school teacher at Jewett Street School. Later, she was co-director of Information Technology. Until her retirement, she was director of the Greater Manchester Professional Development Center. Afterwards, she was an independent education technology consultant. She also volunteered as a journalist with the Deerfield and Candia Forum News.
Mrs. Nelson was awarded The Susan Janosz Technology Impact Award, the “ED’ies Bell Award as well as the NHSTE Award. She was a member of the NH Association of Computer Coordinators. She was a member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed computers, rug hooking and spending time in her sunflower garden.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses of the Intensive Care and the Fitch Units at Elliot Hospital.
In addition to her parents of Manchester, family members include her husband of forty-six years, Kenneth “Dick” R. Nelson of Candia; her sister, Andrea Kokolis of Manchester; her brother, Stephen Kokolis and his lifetime partner, Michelle Mancini of Dover; three nephews and several aunts.
Services: A memorial reception will be held Friday from 4 to 7 PM at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, corner of Concord Street, Manchester.
The Trisagion service will take place Friday evening at 6PM in the funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Mahalares officiating. Urn encryptment will take place in Pine Grove, Cemetery, Manchester.
